I can count objects and match the total to the correct number.
By the end of today's lesson, you should be able to count a set of objects one time each and choose the numeral that tells exactly how many objects are in the set.
A number tells how many objects are in a set.
To count a set, touch or point to each object once while saying the counting numbers in order. The last number you say tells the total. Then look for the numeral that matches that total.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. There are 7 stars, so we match the set to the numeral 7.
Watch how we count and match.
Example 1 — Count 8 objects
Point to each object and count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
The last number said is 8, so there are 8 objects.
Choose the numeral 8 because it matches the quantity.
Example 2 — Match a set of 12
Count each object once until you reach the end of the set.
The count ends at 12.
Match the set to the numeral 12.
Count and match with help.
Count the objects, then choose the numeral that matches the total. You will get immediate feedback.
